Not the most beautiful creature of the ocean but certainly this fellow has a strange reputation ......how every once in great while there is a huge huge squid that is found. This creature has starred in many books and movies scaring little children everywhere. There really is a giant squid in existence.....scientists even think that there are quite a few out in the Bathypelagic Zone of the oceans. This odd creature the worlds largest invertibrate mostly lives in the 1000 to 2000 foot depth of water. For protection the squid ejects a dark ink that confeals into a squid like shape and confuses its enemies while it escapes. The giant squids only enemy is the Sperm Whale. The Squid itself when eating cuts up its food with its hard beak and passes its food thru its brain to its stomach. I dont know what kind of antacid you would use for that kind of digestion. The piece was done on Arches 140 lb hot press watercolor paper using Winsor Newton and Sennlier watercolors.
