Deep sea angler fish are terrifying, savage hunters. They have huge mouths which contain ferocious teeth that are hinged and fold backward, and they have stomachs that are capable of expanding so that they can swallow fish twice as large as themselves.
Since angler fish live in the dark abysses of the deep sea, they are bioluminescent and produce their own light. These various angler fish have light organs that serve as electric bait to attract prey. The fish on the left can flash its light on and off, and it has long whiskers that are organs of touch that help it move around in the dark sea and also to find prey.
Since I was a little girl, I have had a photograph from an old book of these "scary fish", as I called them back then, and I have held on to this picture for over 30 years. I drew these fish from that reference photo with color pencils on colored artagain paper. I then applied a filter over the drawing in photoshop, and I liked the water-like effect that it gives to the piece.
