This little cat-nap fantasy was created for the Squid show--I don't think I ever would have painted squid otherwise, and it has been fun to do something out of the ordinary. I used imitation gold leaf in the background and layers of acrylic medium for texture. I have included ducks and fish in my paintings before, but never anything of this deep sea variety--I was thinking of the different zones of the sea with the layers of colour for the upper zone where the fish live--and I rubbed out layers of paint to get at the layers underneath since this is a favourite technique and it fits with the cloudy undersea world.
