Inspired by the theme "Sideshow" for the August EBSQ contest, I decided to make a piece of work reflecting the artist skills of my friends Vampy & Havve. Computer printed images of Vampy eating fire and Havve holding fire sticks during a performance were layered together with a torn sheet of printed words inspired by my personal idea of "Sideshow" on a white cotton background. Printed white tissue paper was layered over this, then acrylic paints used to colour the whole piece in a "fire" theme. Next I quited strips of coloured felt using machine stitched gold & red metallic threads. The "paper fabric" sheet I made was then machine sewn over the quilted piece. Finally I hand-sew the words "They're playing with FIRE" over the top of these layers. The final piece is very tactile, with layers of colour and detail appearing to "burst out" from the page. This piece could be used as the basis for posters advertising the performance art of Vampy and Havve.
