I painted this a couple of years ago when I was very influenced by the Surrealists in general, Max Ernst in particular. This painting was inspired by Vox Angelica (detail pictured below) and Painting for Young People. I loved the idea of several paintings within a painting and created this piece using my own imagery. I was also influenced by the elements of surprise and humor found in many Surrealist works, and have always tried to incorporate those two things into my own work.
