Jacquie Janzen Yee and I have paired up for this year's Ripped Off show. This pastel drawing is a piece comprised from several of Jacquie's works, which gave it a "collage" feel. I chose her piece titled "Memory Tree - Ode to Ex Love," got rid of the ring (time to forget the ex) and gave the branch new blooms (growth is good). I chose flowers and fruits from Jacquie's still life paintings for the new tree, and placed the tree in the same Carnival glass vase that is seen in several of her works. I loved the idea of using the cups that are stacked in "Dinner at Seuss's" in the foreground - it seemed appropriate for this bit of strangeness while it was in the works. The planet earth (or is it?) in the background is from her assemblage, "Globe Thistle." Two images are actually collaged onto the page - one of her "babes" from her painting titled "Beach Babes" is sitting on the couch, and the bloom in the lower right corner from the piece titled, "Blossom." It was a fun piece to do, and a bit off my usual course. It was also a challenge because I did this while on a spur-of-the-moment road trip to the east coast.
This piece was done using Windsor & Newton pastels on Watercolor paper.
