Art: CAT WOMAN PIN by Artist Lauren Cole Abrams
TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I WOULD DO FOR A A PORTRAIT OF TRACEY WAS DIFFICULT AT FIRST...THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS ABOUT HER THAT DESCRIBE HER...HER TATTOO ART, HER NUMEROUS FURRY BABIES, HER BEAUTY AND HER ART....I DECIDED TO COMBINE A FEW OF THESE IN A POLYMER CLAY PIN USING SOME TECHNIQUES I JUST LEARNED USING TRANSLUCENT CLAY. FIRST I BAKED (CURED)A 2" ROUND PIECE OF POLYMER CLAY THEN DREW HER IN PRISMACOLOR PENCILS AND MARKERS...I THEN PUT DOWN A LAYER OF TRANSLUCENT CLAY ON TOP OF THE TO SEAL IT...AND ADDED A FEW STRIPED AND GOLD LEAF CANES FOR INTEREST....I THEN BAKED THAT, AND AFTERWARDS USED A HEAT GUN TO GET THE CLAY AS TRANSPARENT AS POSSIBLE....WHEN I WAS HAPPY WITH THAT, I SANDED WITH SIX GRITS, AND POLISHED IT ON A BUFFING WHEEL.... I ADDED SOME FLORA AROUND THE BORDER TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SHE WAS PEEKING THROUGH FROM SOME DARK JUNGLE OR FOREST...AND THEN PUT A PINBACK ON IT....IT CAN BE USED AS A BROOCH OR ADDED TO A NECKPIECE... THIS WAS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING PORTRAITS I'VE EVER DONE...NOT EASY, BUT SO MUCH FUN
