I paired up with fellow EBSQ artist Loredana Mariotto a little late in the portrait swap sign-ups, but when I saw her photographs, I was electrified. I knew that painting her would be a wonderful experience, thanks to her striking beauty and knowing expression. She has the most gorgeous, wise eyes--she is someone I would like to laugh with on a good day or cry with on a sad one.
I began the piece by sketching her onto a 6X6 stretched canvas from her photograph. I concentrated on building up the complexities of her skin tones by using only three colors. I decided to play up her long, lovely hair for the portrait, but I preserved her eyes and just-barely-curled lips. A true joy to paint.
