It was bitterly cold day in March when I painted this so although I started with good intentions - sitting at a picnic table, I did retire to the relative warmth of my car and finished the work looking out the window! (and a few finishing touches at home, checking out the hills from my studio) This is a small cottage a few miles away from the village where I live in North Wales. Ty Bychan means 'little house' in Welsh and it sits in isolation up in the hills. The man who lives there lost his wife a couple of years ago and now cycles into the nearest town, Porthmadog, and back every day for a bit of company. A round trip of about 20 miles.
