This painting was done while visiting a place I had lived for over 20 years. It is difficult to find flat land in the mountains of West Virginia, but this was a small ravine between two mountains off to the left and right of the small creek flowing slowly in the autumn afternoon. At the time I was painting, sunlight was blocked by the huge hills, but still an even glow was cast upon the banks. A tranquil place where you could easily get lost in your thoughts.
