Bayrisch Gmain is a small town on the Austrian border. This is a view into the Austrian side of the town, Grossgmain. I was staying there for vacation in June of '93--didn't realize I'd be back in 5 years to live about 3 hours away. The field was a nice place to paint. No one around to bug me.
The clouds are the typical low clouds of the mountains with that sapphire blue between; not the low gray clouds of the Baltic in the north, but the thick puffy clouds of the Alps. They hang on the mountain like a fur boa.
In the background is the "Predigstuhl" or Preacher's Chair. The town itself is very high up in the Alps at 540 metres, but the Predigstuhl is almost 3000 metres in elevation.
