T.C. Steele was a famous Indiana artist in the late 1800's - early 1900's. He purchased over 300 acres in the southern part of Indiana where he took inspiration for many of his paintings. Every year in May over 100 artists gather at his estate for a day of plein air painting. This year as I wandered the grounds, I came upon this clearing with the border of trees in the background and chose this scene for my painting. Starting with a blank canvas and given 7 hours to complete, this painting was done with oils and a palette knife, and a good time had by all.
