Art: Rachel Carson Nature Preserve, Wells, ME by Artist Cynthia M Guajardo
I painted this marsh scene at the Rachel Carson Nature Preserve in Wells, ME in the summer of 2004. It was painted on site over the course of four hours. It was a hot lazy summer morning and the noseums and green flies were biting mighty hard that day. It was necessary to work quickly because the tide was changing as I painted. The waterways were full when I arrived at the site and were beginning to go out as I painted. I began this painting at home by add a celery green color over the entire background. Once I arrived on site, I chose my spot and added the loose blocks of definition with a wash followed by increasing detail using acrylic paint. Afterwards, I rewarded myself with lunch at the local lobster shack just 1/2 mile up the road. In the afternoon, I turned my attention towards the beach. This painting is currently in my collection.
