This piece is dedicated to the shamisen, an instrument whose haunting melody and lyrical voice has been a cornerstone of Japanese culture for centuries. In Shamisen no Uta, I tried to capture the subtle beauty of the instrument by contrasting it with the stark elegance of the musician, a geisha. The artwork itself was first hand drawn on 80lb natural white drawing paper, inked, and then painted digitally.
