Art: Lennon's Stance by Artist Kristin Turberville

I chose Lennon's Stance as this piece's title because this drawing clearly shows how John Lennon always seemed to sing with his head back - peering out at the audience. I chose this picture (by Jurgen Vollmer) of John in Hamburg, Germany, because all you can see in the photograph is John's head/face, his hand, his guitar, and the microphone. Because drawing in the highlights instead of the shadows, this drawing was a little challenging. For that, I love it.

I do not normally enjoy drawing detailed images of guitars, but I must admit that I like how the Rickenbacker turned out, especially the shading on its neck.

Awards/Recognitions: This drawing won a Second Place ribbon at the 2002 Bloomsburg, PA Fair. This drawing received a Second Place ribbon in the charcoal category in the 2002 Packwood House Museum Scholastic Art Competition. This drawing also received a ribbon for participation in the Amateur category for the 2002 Chicago Beatlefest Art Contest.
