There was a period of painting called Neo- Fauvism in the late 70's early 80's in which this painting was made. The challenge at the time was to bring color (in this case predominatly oranges and yellows) relationships to the foreground, even with an already highly manipulated image. This was one of a series of about 15 works. Scale also became an important ingredient, again tring to explode the color to the fore front with a very obvious subject matter receeding to the back. The very nature of the word orange (color) seemed like a great reason to enter a Neo-Fauvist piece to this show. This painting is oil on cotton canvas using only bristle brushes.
