Art: Mother Goose by Artist Sara Burrier
Mother Goose, the great grand mother of nursery rhymes, and father (from the nursery rhyme) spreading nursery rhymes across the world. I chose her honestly because I've always wanted to illustrate her. Every time my friend Candace and I go to the bookstore I see Mother Goose and always wondered what it would be like to see her in my style of working. I think the way she looks at the moment in my work has a lot to do with my garden mice...characters I've been working a lot on as of late. The process is also a new one for me. Although I've done a few illustrations in it thus far, it's still new. I have thrown out the inking process entirely. I love it! And now to build up my contrast I use colored pencil on top of my watercolors. I have found some prismacolor pencils that are a harder led, and work beautifully! This has allowed me to do things I would normally find frustrating in watercolor. Such as adding depth without muddying up my colors, and to add elements like the whisps in this piece without worrying about the paint underneath. Working on this piece also showed me surprisingly I can erase the colored pencil!! Who knew! Overall I totally enjoyed working on this piece and am excited to place it into my portfolio. Such a joy and knowing that it's a nursery rhyme makes it all the better. Thank you EBSQ for such a beautiful subject matter.
