This original painting is a portrait of Marie Laveau, the woman known as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans (and probably the entire South). Laveau's tomb in New Orleans is marked by small x's to this day by people who still hope for a love spell from the famed healer. My version of Marie shows her wearing a deep red turban and lovely olive green silk dress, with metallic gold hoop earrings. Her light blue eyes are piercing, contrasting nicely with her cocoa brown complexion, and they seem to follow you wherever you go.
