Art: Night Visitor by Artist Christopher Boswell

Living in the Great Pacific Northwest I have the opportunity to come face to face with a wide variety of wildlife. Sometimes it is a surprise, not planned at all. As a nature lover and photographer, I must make the most of these "encounters" as they occur.

This shot is the result of meeting Mister Tree Frog late one evening. He was hanging out in front of my home and popped out in front of me as I entered. He was invited inside to crawl around some of my house plants. This is one of the portraits we made together. He was quite a ham, just like he knew what was going on. His whole body was just about one inch in length.

That night before retiring, I placed him in a well grown and moist terrerium. A few hours later I was awakened to a loud noise much like a fog horn. Groggy and fearful I stumbled into the living room wondering what was going on. Mr Frog had climbed out onto the top of the enclosure and was engaged in a calling ritual. I wish it could have been captured on film. His throat was the size of a basketball and vibrating, creating the wonderfully annoying sound. Taking this as a clue he needed to be released, I set him back in the front where we met a few hours earlier. Now just his memory and this photograph remain.Thank you for viewing this piece!
