I live on a farm that has a long (almost a 3rd of a mile) lane. When I walk down to get my afternoon mail, I usually bring along my camera so I can shoot new reference photos to paint from. This copper-colored butterfly was resting on a milkweed leaf, soaking up the warmth from the sun. He was a small butterfly, less than an inch wide. ( I used to study butterflies and moths when I was younger and, if a remember right, this butterfly is called a checkerspot).
This photo was shot with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, f/10, exposure time 1/500 sec, ISO 400, 54mm.
