For this exhibition,” Lifting the Veil”, this 4" x 6" acrylic painting depicts a Norse sorceress or seer. She is practising Seid an old Norse term for sorcery or witchcraft. Seid consisted mainly the conjuring up of spells and was practised mainly by women. Seid included both divination and manipulative magic. This type of seid was distinct by a more metaphysical nature. The Seer/sorceress would try to enter a trance like state to see the future.
Norse Mythology has always been shrouded in mystery. Probably because most of the myths and legends have been verbally handed down, not through written word. I have attempted to show the power of the sorceress/seeress but keep in mind her secretive nature in this piece.
