The inspiration for this painting came from the view outside my studio window. Cardinals forage for seeds that I throw out for them on the hillside. The backdrop for this painting is that of the Loess Hills. The Loess Hills are wind blown sediment created thousands of years ago.No where else in the world but China do they reach such heights. During heavy snow storms, the Cardinals nestle them selves along the bank to seek shelter from the harsh winds. As the wind driven snow blows, I reflect on how the hills were created and the nature and beauty they provide. I feel so lucky to have such a natural wonder as my backyard.
