Art: Strength of Your Wings by Artist Melanie Pruitt
**I'm entering this in the "Better Late Than Never" exhibit. I could have entered it in the "Waxing Lyrical" exhibit but I chose a different painting instead. I had intended to enter it in the "Hope For Those Who Suffer" but it's been a very hard year physically, and I never got it entered. Therefore, better late than never!**

This is a very special painting for me because it is based on a song that deeply touched me. The song is "Old Man Pueo" by Keola Beamer. The Pueo, or Hawaiian Owl is very special in the Hawaiian culture. Below are the lyrics.

The song is also a prayer for strength in the midst of difficult times. I deal with a chronic illness on a daily basis and I always feel this song speaks what is in my heart.

This painting has been in my mind to paint for a long time and has been on my easel for over 3 hard months. I have slowly worked away at it and am very pleased to see my vision come to completion.

You'll notice the painting depicts the first verse. But please read all the lyrics. You will see why I chose this painting for the "Hope For Those Who Suffer" exhibit.

Lord I've seen some pretty sights

And I haven't seen them all I've been told

I've never seen a prettier site than I have on the Southpoint Road

Old man Pueo,he was standing on the stone

His body framed by sunset and the sea

Old man Pueo, he's always so alone

His feathers caught the colors in the sky

Oh heavenly Father please, oh Jesu please

I’ll give everything that I need

If someday my life could be so free.

Lord I've spent some sleepless nights

And my heart has been confused I know

My life has been a bumpy road

And I wish that it could have flowed

Old man Pueo, could I borrow the strength of your wings

Would they lift me from the darkness to the sun

Old man Pueo i'm a stranger in the sky

And I think that you have helped me in your own way

Oh heavenly Father please, oh Jesu please

I'd give everything that I need

If someday my life could be so free.

I'm not sure if I will be putting this up for sale or not. If you're interested in buying it, contact me and we can talk.
