Art: Losing Face, and Aftermath, 2002 by Artist Balto
This oil painting at first glance appears lighthearted and happy. On closer inspection one picks up the drama in the artist's depiction of the day to day tragedies and embarrassments we all face which can hurt deeply and wound seriously. Losing face is about being publicly embarrassed and examines the reactions of other people to that individual’s woe. Some gossip, laughing, some shush, some are surprised, some empathize, but you’re out there on your own baby, at the end of the day.
