This naïve and nightmarish heavily textured acrylic painting is meant to be a little joke of sorts Hansel and Gretel, the children's story we are all so familiar with takes a weird turn somewhere and the kids are still wandering around the forest 30 years later, still lost, still clueless. They never met up with the witch, no candy, no little house in the woods, no witch trying to eat them, and no escape, and of course, those crumbs are long gone. The nightmare? Limbo, wasted time, diverted destiny, so the story doesn’t have an ending, happy or otherwise. Much scarier this way, I think. Forever lost, forever searching, forever.
