I began this piece over a year ago when it was a simple study of a figure in a landscape. I set it aside when I was diagnosed with leukemia last summer. After finally achieving a temporary remission recently, I picked it up again and it quickly became a work about fear. Though I'm a person serious about my commitments to religious faith, the fear of death was something I faced this past year, and I continue to struggle with it. This piece is in part an expression of that personal struggle.
