Usually when I do one of my "Bug" pics, I throw a lot of heavy color all over the place, because, well, I'm a big color fan. Here I was trying some new stuff-- I took alot of liberty with acrylic paint here, and I love the flow of the final product.
As always, the symmetry had to be there, so you'll see that the circle that is spilling all of the wonderful color into the middle of the canvas has a shadowy twin on the side of the piece. The same with the rectangle that houses the fabulous colors of the beetle.
You can see on the close up of the beetle, he has a lot of small colored borders that are stacked up around him. The body and depth that they lend to the beetle's form allow him to really pop from the work even though he is so small.
