This is another in a series of face bags.
Handpainted fabrics were layered with fibers, stitched, slashed and then aggitated to create the dimensions. The faces were drawn later. The sides of the bag and strap are hand knit with beads knitted into the sides. Bag works on spring hardware. Inside is lined in hanpainted fabric.
I had loads of interesting fibers in the studio and was intrigued by the slash idea but wanted to incorporate fibers into the slashing. These bags took over the house. I had to paint each panel seperately which required 4 panels per bag. Each had to dry alone. Then when they had dried I had to begin assembling thte layers of fabric, then fiber, then fabric and so on. Tricky part was sewing all these layers which by now were sometimes 2+ inches high. That required a special sewing machine which I had to acquire. The most fun was seeeing the piece after it had been washed and all the fibers start to morph together. It was almost like 3-d felt...well sorta. What a mess in the washing machine and dryer!
