I was initially inspired to do this piece from Indian textiles. I have always loved the color, shapes and textures of Indian fabrics. I began the background with that intent...but then my focus shifted more towards the spiritual element in Indian culture. India is such a mystical place...and I wanted to convey the divine element of the Buddah, Goddess in Indian culture.. The lotus flower is actually the national flower of India...but I used that to imply a purity and grace in their spiritual customs and lifestyle.
