The main subject of this piece are the violets; the second subject is the woman wearing them, whose name (Violeta) also means violet.

I wanted to place the violets in an environment where they would be admired. What a better place than a woman's hair. I kept the background dark like her hair, in order to highlight the flowers.

Through this painting I want to convey a sense of natural beauty: the flowers are real and the woman is pure, nothing else adorns her face, except a pair of violet earings. She is not wearing any makeup. All she needs to look beautiful is her hair adorned with violets. The woman, perhaps is admiring herself, or showing off her beauty. Either way, she is ready for a special ocassion.
