For this painting I began by covering the entire canvas with torn pieces of newpaper. I then put down a light layer of white gesso. Then I came in with layers and layers of rich, luminous paint. In some areas laying down thick paint and in others letting some of the newspaper faintly show through. The finished painting absolutely glows with color and life. The newspaper gives the canvas a smoother finish making the painting look very contemporary.

When the painting was finished, it occured to me that the tulips look like three friends out for a stroll. Thus the title of the painting.
