Art: Coyote Howling Stamp by Artist Joanna Daneman
This is a miniature stamp-sized watercolor of a coyote howling at the moon next to two very common plants in New Mexico, chimisa, a yellow-flowering brush plant and cane cholla, a cactus. Tiny, but very detailed. Cane cholla is a bushy cactus with spiny, cylindrical, fleshy stems. The spines are very finely barbed and difficult to remove from flesh (maybe the coyote is howling because he bumped into a few spines.) In many backyards, you will find cane cholla and the low growing "prickly pear" cactus. When I take a walk in my mom's backyard, this is what I find (stepping carefully.) This painting is a miniature--the size of a larger postage stamp.
