The good old sunflower, state flower of Kansas.
Painting flowers was never my thing because for the longest time it seemed like a big challenge, therefor I stayed away from anything floral. So one day I researched the different aspects and colors of this beautiful flower and just did it. Painted on Fredrix Gallery Wrap cotton canvas with Liquitex paste/gels and pallete knives. My focus was to make the sunflowers pop out, layering and glazing over and over as well as giving it mild shaddows in select areas.
I used light panels to bring the eye in. Then I darkened the outer brownish part as a counterbalance to allow the eye to rest, linger and freely explore the centerpoint.
