This work was inspired (as much of my work is) by the bright red poppies that grow in my garden. The stark white bones and the remnants of the flowers themselves, combined with a blood-red stone, all signify the relationship that these flowers and their properties have with the flesh and blood. A pressed poppy bloom is at the center of the piece, overlaid by stone, bones and the heads of dead flowers.
The scan is somewhat brighter than the actual work itself.
The back has been titled, signed and dated by the artist and includes the poem, Her Scent is in Me.
"My bones point the way.
Her song
is in my blood.
Her petals fold
around my dreams.
Her scent is in me."
