Orchids are everywhere here in Hawaii and after moving here in Y2K I came to a new appreciation of the darlings. I set out to do a series of them. This was the first and it took me a long time because I just wanted it to be perfect and I could never let it go. Just now in 2006 I was invited to participate in a group show and I finally decided to finish the painting and share. The show was hung (in a local country club) and within the first hour of the installation there were complaints that the painting was inappropriate, and that the image could be interpreted as "something else." My little orchid baby darling was kicked out of her first show!
