The fire bearing titan of Greek mythology has often been depicted by artists, in many instances the titan is shown during his punishment. This work is an modern expressionist rendering created in the spirit of refusal to accept oppression. Several parts of the Promethus myth are part of the work. The abstracted figure could be interpreted as the titan chained to the rocks or that of man rising from the rock as the titan was said to have created man from clay. The linear pattern scored into the paper is the fold lines from an origami bird figure, alluding to the eagle that eats Prometheus' liver. The main focus of the work is the idea of the gift of fire as an act of disobediance. THe creation of this work was very kinetic as several layers of water soluable media were sketched and rubbed on to the paper with washes of water applied between each layer.
