This is truly a mix of old world religious icon and contemporary painting. Lets see, I'm not very good at doing these statements. I think the composition and theme of course are very traditional. You can compare the two philosophies represented here by the Virgin herself and then by the "live long and prosper" hand sign-many people live by both these days :) The "Big Eye" style of painting is also a contemporary aspect . However when I was researching old paintings of the Virgin Mary for this I came across a website that dissected an old traditional painting and it said that she had bigger sized eyes to watch over us all better :) Anyways I hope you like her, I do!
