"Bubble, bubble, Toil and Trouble"...
As a haunting sequel to my "Attack of the 50 foot SuperModel" painting, here's an entire COVEN of SuperModel witches!! Yikes! A coven consists of 13 witches and each one here is dressed in hooded black garments.
They gather together in the graveyard around their huge bubbling, steaming black cauldron, with who knows what kind of strange brew inside. Is it baby fat, eye of newt, bats, frogs?
During the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials from the 1600's, those thought to be witches, were burned to death at the stake. Well, these witches are not afraid of that; in fact, they laugh in the face of death, especially on this, their favorite holiday, "Dia de los muertos" (Day of the Dead).... You can see several of them cackling and giggling and just having a grand old time celebrating and mocking death.
The midnight hour is upon us, and that's when they will get a chance to practice their witchcraft and draw open the veil to the spirit world and conjure the dead! Oh - now you can see one of the dearly departed ghoulish souls ascending from the tombstone in the graveyard to join the party!
Yes, they celebrate death, and several even carry marigold flowers to decorate the tombstones of the dead.
Covens use their black magic powers to cast spells, and do evil of all sorts, so beware. This coven knows that with their supernatural supermodel occult powers, they, themselves, can rise again from the dead, to once again stroll down the catwalk - and speaking of which, the witch's best friend is the proverbial black cat, which you see depicted here as well...
So beware, the next time you go to a fashion show, the sexy, skinny ladies you see on the runways may be a whole lot more than just another pretty face!
This piece was created specifically for the EBSQ "Dia De Los Muertos" show, and is my first attempt at collage. Hope you like it.
