I did this painting as a tribute to my great aunt Anne. Worshipping my ansestor in my own way. She divorced her abusive alcoholic husband at a time when there were huge consequences for a woman to divorce. She was pretty much shunned after that. Of necessity she was a loner and soon had the reputation as a witch. Matters were not helped by the fact that she was successful, and if not rich, at least comfortable. At the age of 95 years and 7 months she died of natural causes. She never had children and never remarried. There were rumors that she had a lover at one point, but it was never proven. I created for her an angel of death to reunite her with her lover. Anne Alone is finally in someones arms after death. (In loving memory of Anne Born)
