Art: Leaf Pottery by Artist John Penfold
Here is something I made at school, many years ago.

As far as I remember, the instructions were to make a pot by rolling out each side flat and then joining them together.

I vividly remember one of my pot sides starting to crack, even though I intended it to be smooth. It reminded me of a leaf texture, so I cut it as a leaf shape. I thought I would get into trouble for this - discipline was pretty severe in those days and you could not predict what would set a teacher off !

Since it was not a pot any more, I cut zig-zag wedges on another face, to contrast with the curve of the leaf.

I also cut some holes, like caves, in the bottom because that reminded me of a painting by Roger Dean on the cover of one of my favorite LPs by "Yes". Remember that, as a teenager, I was heavily into my favorite band !

I remembered this pot when I saw a re-issue of "Yes" on CD and then remembered the EBSQ clay competition... so here it is !
