Using my Canon PowerShot A75 digital camera, we took this just outside our home. I used relatively little photo editing after uploading -- a B and W filter, a bit of cropping, plus a small touch of highlight/shadow balancing....
This picture of my son tugs at my heart a little. We took a number of wonderful photos during this session, but I believe this one in particular makes me react the most....At 14 years, Mason is already over 6 feet. Tall for his age, and with strong features, he is regularly mistaken for being older than he actually is -- yet I think this photo (with him in his ballet shirt -- he is a dancer) captures a subtle vulnerability that makes him appear at least his tender age, if not giving me a glimpse of the little boy that I know is still a part of him in there somewhere, but that I see less and less of with every passing day....
Funny regarding this particular pose-- we had been shooting photos on our front porch when I noticed a mosquito on Mason's neck, and swatted it for him. It had only just landed, so I figured I'd gotten it before it had time to do its mosquito 'thing' -- but no, a few minutes later, after Mason and I had moved to the back yard to continue taking photographs, apparently the bite on his neck was beginning to itch. I shot this photo just as he discreetly reached up for a little scratch.....
