Art: Triumph of Fast-food Ameican Religion: An Allegory by Artist Phillip A. Hunt
(SOLD)This is my allegoical statement about the "American Religion" The banner says,"Jesus shall (underlined) Reign !. The inner meaning of this work is the triumph of the digital over the analog. The triumph of the linear over the non-linear. And the coruption of the pure symbol. The word or alphabet as art , displaces and defaces the primacy of the wordlless and the timeless. The imperialism of the written word is shown on the banner which says "Jesus shall reign". Jesus is the Divine Word and in the Monotheistic religions "Word " has triumphed over the ancient subjective feeling transmitted by pure symbol. We see a pseudo American flag corupted by "the word" To paraphrase Kushner America was created by words and our symbols are easy prey to the linear . The underlined "shall" puts this in the linear future and thus, like all linear concepts a mentalist dream.
