Art: Plum & Sage Journal - SOLD by Artist Kristi Schueler

There are two main reasons I am drawn to the use of typography in my art. Firstly, I have always enjoyed the marriage of organic and geometric shapes and lines that are found in typography. Secondly, letters, numbers, symbols and words naturally go hand in hand with the world of books. I enjoy using typography as a visual texture and in this piece have layered many different fonts and words to aid in the creation of depth.

This 96-page blank book in shades of Twilight and Ivy Canson Mi-Tientes paper is hand bound between two original mixed media collages on canvas panels with a combination of herringbone and chain stitches to allow the book to lay flat when open, but hold up to plenty of abuse. Each signature is nestled in a concertina fold that expands the spine and allows for the addition of more elements such as photos and other memorabilia without stressing the binding. It comes with a coordinating handmade bag for easy travel or protective storage and three writing instruments.
