This is part of an abstract series that I have been exploring for over a year. The series is generally classified by compartmentalized areas of vivid color and texture blended down and blurred to a point where boundary lines are often indistinguishable. In a very abstract way, both literally and figuratively, these paintings, to me, speak to some of the social and cultural issues of our times.

This is the first painting of the series and it is very special to me. It was done in 2004 during a difficult period of my life. My paintings are entirely drawn from my emotions and the color shifts, planes and textural aspects of the work will always reflect what I am feeling at the time. Most elements of my work I prefer to leave unconscious however, there are some aspects that I consciously manipulate. Such as the horizontal lines which are generally representational of time/space. Separating emotions and feelings of past and present. And the solitary vertical band which is often, but not always, representational of self, (sometimes this particular band is horizontal).
