Blue on Terracotta

This HUGE 30x30" square abstact piece has lot of texture, and color. I wanted something unique and bright with a lot of contrast in it. Something to really jump out and make a "statement" immediately when people see it.

As I started to paint, I just went with the flow of the colors, as they mixed and blended with one another to give the painting a variegated or streaked, rustic look. It might sound weird, but I knew exactly when the painting was finished; when the colors had been blended just right. There was precisely enough blue, exactly in the places I wanted it to be.

I left about 1 inch of white space on all sides, which is unusual for me; I usually like to paint the sides of my paintings black, but with this particular piece, I liked the "roughhewn" and organic effect that leaving the sides white gave it, so I left it that way. I expressed myself through the use of form and color. It is a form of non-representational, or non-objective, art, which means that there are no concrete objects represented.

I have signed it on the back so owner can hang either vertically or horizontally; whichever they prefer and it's varnished for protection and enhancement of color.

Some of the colors that I used are: cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue, cadmium red, and a little bit of alizarin crimson.

I show several pictures here, from differing angles and include closeups for detail of texture and color.
