This was created at a time when I was attempting to expand my body of work by adding greater detail while still remaining abstract compositionally.

Starting with a thick ground of black and white gesso which dried to a lumpy surface, I took great pleasure in layering color upon color and creating brief bright spots within a larger neutral work.

I consider all my abstract work to be exercises in controlled passion. The need to move the paint around without inhibition, adding color at whim is tempered by the constant danger of creating mud.
