In 1890 the corner of State Street and Madison in Chicago was known as "The Busiest Corner of the World"! It was THE epicenter for commerce in the midwest with people traveling from far and wide to shop there.
This painting is based on an old black and white photograph that I had found. I liked the photo because it captured the motion and feeling of the shoppers hurrying about to snap up their wares before their long treks back home.
This 22x30 painting was done with Winsor and Newton watercolors on Arches 300 lb. Rough watercolor paper.
