Art: Just Bluster by Artist MARY ANNE Z. O'SULLIVAN
"Just Bluster" Webster's Dictionary says:
"bluster: noisy, empty threats or protests; to roar and be tumultuous as wind; the bluster of a storm at sea."

While enduring one of life's storms in my own life I painted this small watercolor to remind myself that nomatter how awful or hopeless they may seem, blustery storms eventually pass. For the moment I became the bait shack alone on the spindly pier, feeling weak and abandoned. Storms may be scarey but they're mostly "bluster." The fragile, faint pink in the lightest part of the sky where the clouds are clearing away is 'hope'. Actually hope is pushing the clouds away. It doesn't take much of it but hope is vital to our survival. Because hope can be fragile we must hold it in our hearts and protect it nomatter how little hope we may have.

Needless to say I've never offered this painting for sale. I still need the reminder. But print this for yourself if you want...you have my permission.

The technique is basically wet in wet for the sea and sky. After that dried the cluster of houses on the shore, rocks, pier and bait shack were added. Arches cold pressed paper helped produce the nice bleeds and edges in the sky. Limited pallette of mostly Davey's Gray and Payne's Gray to allow the faint pink to show.
