Art: Hopi woman by Artist Lynn Dobbins
I have a problem (I think) in that I ALWAYS tend to overwork a piece, I get absorbed in the minutae, and detail, and many times end up losing the feeling I wanted to convey.. "Hopi Woman" is my attempt to deconstruct my artwork...to simplify, and capture a feeling and mood without overdoing it... to deconstruct not only my usual style of painting, but my thought process while painting. I didn't sketch this out like I normally do, While in the process of patina-ing, and preparing the copper sheet , I noticed a woman's silouhette, So i picked up the brush, and started working. it just evolved into the final piece, without the endless rehashing that I usually find myself doing. I used light washes of ink obver patina'd and annealed copper sheeting for this piece, letting the hues and tones of the copper show through.
