Tupelo Gum Wood Box

Woodwork Art Gallery

Art: Tupelo Gum Wood Box by Artist Daniel L. Miller
The piece is made of spalted Tupelo Gum and the finial on the lid is Ebony. The base is 3.25" dia. and the wall thickness is 1/4". This wood is soft but turns well and I have added some nice suprise features. The underside of the lid has a raised center. The wood is very light, therefore I burned the inside box edge so as to help it stand out as well as adding black and red Beek inlace to the bottom. Sanded to 400 grit and #0000 steel wool. Finished with sanding sealer and then buffed with the Beal system and Carnauba wax for a long lasting lustrous finish.
